MONOBLOCO
have built up a remarkable reputation over the last 6 years on Rio’s
Carnival scene. Their latest live CD & DVD have been widely acclaimed.
MONOBLOCO Live "Som Livre", was recorded at Circo Voador, Rio
de Janeiro and features special appearances by such illustrious Brazilian
artists as Lenine, Fernanda Abreu, MC’s Júnior e Leonardo and
Pedro Quental.
MONOBLOCO
was born in 2000 following percussion workshops given by the members of
PLAP (Pedro Luís e a Parede/PedroLuís & the Wall).They
are now synonymous with the revival of Rio de Janeiro´s street Carnival
music, rescuing the classical Brazilian carnival culture and blending other
Brazilian musical genres with samba.
Their
annual pre-carnival parties, attracting 4,000 people a night, and their
Carnival parade, which
moves around the coast of Leblon and Ipanema beaches with over 50,000 revelers,
have been huge successes. In order to take the unique Carioca (native of
Rio) experienceacross Brazil and abroad they have developed a smaller format
show. This is the MONOBLOCO SHOW, a percussion group comprised of 16 to
21 professional musicians.
The
MONOBLOCO SHOW features several percussion and rhythm instrumentalists selected
from the Carioca music scene, playing samba as well as funk & pop music.
The group recorded its first CD in 2002 and has been travelling through
several cities in Brazil giving workshops and performances of their rhythmic
feast. Their repertoire ranges from traditional sambas to classics of Brazilian
Popular Music such as Tim Maia, Jorge Benjor, Chico Buarque, Nação
Zumbi, Luiz Gonzaga and many other major names. The MONOBLOCO SHOW is a
real party that has satisfied the widest range of audiences. |
